Let the Adventures Begin!!

The turtle has begun his travels! Of course, being the adventuresome turtle that he is, he started his journey in the other Sunshine State - South Dakota! (And yes, they really do call it that.) He's laughing at me now. Hush!!

First of all Susan, let me tell you, this guy was one BITTER turtle. When you told him he was going to be travelling First Class, you neglected to mention that it was First Class Mail! He was so looking forward to the complimentary beverage! Oh well. We did make sure to give him a snack immediately upon his arrival.

After the snack, he decided he wanted to stretch his legs. He, Truman, Eleanor and I took off for a little walk. You can see him hiding against Truman's shirt. Unfortunately, we had passed a house with a Yorkie, so he was a little freaked out (and so was Eleanor!). Sorry!

But, being such an adventuresome turtle, a little walk wasn't enough! He wanted to see what South Dakota had to offer! So he hitched a ride on an authentic South Dakota farm truck.

And Susan, I hate to break this to you, but it appears he may be a liberal! ;)

And off to the farm they went! Truman was very excited to show the turtle all over Grandpa's farm. Unfortunately, they were both too short to see much!

By this time, the turtle had had enough of country life. He wanted to *do* something. So we went to the movie! He had a great time at first, but then he started hogging the popcorn, so into the diaper bag he went. Sorry. I love my movie popcorn.

The next night we decided to show him that South Dakota wasn't all cows and corn fields, so we took him to dinner. It was my mumble, mumble birthday, and we were going to a fancy schmancy Brazillian place, so we knew he would enjoy it. After gorging ourselves on feijoida and ridiculous amounts of meat, our gorgeous gaucho hit it off with our little guy. (For the record, the food was almost as yummy as the gaucho!)

But all good things must come to an end. As much as we've enjoyed hosting our little foster turtle, we know there are so many other families out there longing for the chance to love and care for a turtle of their own. So it is with great sadness *sniff*, that we send the little guy on his way. He wouldn't admit it, but I know he's going to miss us, too. I caught him staring at our picture last night after I broke the news it was time to move on.

Godspeed, little guy. Godspeed. *sniff*

Lovingly submitted by Jeanne (Trumansmom)

PS - Trying to get him to tell us his name was a nightmare! I'm thinking he has a past he doesn't want to catch up with him. Maybe he's running from the law? Nah. I don't think he's quite that clever. Maybe from his bookie? Anyway, he said to call him, "Bob". No last name, just "Bob". Maybe the next hostess will be able to pry more information out of him?

Wow! A Brazilian restaurant in SD? I would have never guessed. A farm visit is a great way to get some fresh air. Hope to see you soon Bob!
